Q: What are the major changes to Case in Point?
A: The ACR has partnered with Wolters Kluwer, a popular publisher of clinical content, to offer Case in Point access to institutional libraries via its Ovid platform, using licensing agreements. Free access to Case in Point and its CME will is restricted to ACR members. ACR member users are required to log in to their online My ACR account at the beginning of all cases, rather than at the end. Institutional access to Case in Point is provided through Wolters Kluwer's Ovid platform. In order to obtain access on institutional level, a valid subscription to Case in Point on Ovid is required. Please contact support@ovid.com for further information or questions.

Q: Will Wolters Kluwer own the case content such as images and discussion?
A: No, ACR will continue to own the copyright for the case content. The ACR will continue to manage the Case in Point editorial processes and all functions related to Case in Point. Wolters Kluwer will provide access to Case in Point to its subscribers in the same way that ACR members view and access the content in the ACR Cortex platform.

Q: Will I lose access to Case in Point?
A: Members, residents, and medical students will continue to receive access to Case in Point content and its free CME. Medical students will need to apply for free ACR membership, and all three groups need to ensure they have an online ACR account. Institutions who procure a license for Case in Point through Wolters Kluwer will be able to access the program via their Ovid Platform. In addition, Case in Point will continue to offer select, archived case content free to all readers, to include cases from 2005 to 2014, which will be added to as cases age.

Q: Why do I need to log in at the beginning of the case?
A: As part of our new requirement that restricts free Case in Point access to members, residents and medical students, the ACR must verify member status before granting access to Case in Point content. For your convenience, selecting “remember me” on the My ACR login screen will enable you to save your login information to your browser.

Q: How can my institution purchase an institutional license?
A: All institutional licenses can be purchased from Wolters Kluwer.

Q: How do I access the benchmarking report?
A: While you are completing a case, click on the Reports drop down in the top navigation, and click on Benchmark. We anticipate future refinements to the benchmarking feature, including a feedback mechanism in the future. If you have questions regarding the report or suggestions to its content, please contact us at cipsupport@acr.org.

Q: What if I don’t have an ACR membership but want to apply?
A: Radiologists and medical physicists may visit the ACR Join Page to apply for membership. Residents, fellows and medical students may apply for complimentary ACR membership. Note that membership for residents and medical students is only available freely to those in a radiology-related program, such as radiology, radiation oncology, and interventional radiology. Prospective medical student members should note that your application is not complete until we receive verification of current enrollment. For immediate processing, you may upload a letter or document from your program or from the National Student Clearinghouse. Otherwise, we will contact your program for this information, and this may take up to two weeks.

Q: I am a member; Who do I contact if my ACR login isn't working?

Q: I'm retired; can I still access Case in Point content?
A: The ACR offers free membership to retired members; contact membership to ensure your account is updated (ACR Membership at 800-347-7748 or membership@acr.org).

Q: I submitted a case suggestion. When will I hear if it's been accepted or rejected?
A: It takes up to 3 months for a response.

Q: I submitted my case to ACR. When will it be posted on the Web site?
A: Assuming that your case does not require revision, it will be approximately 4 months depending on how far cases are scheduled. If your case requires revision, timing will depend on how quickly you submit your revisions to us. Also, please be aware that your case will be subject to our peer-review process, and the case must be approved by our experts before posting.

Q: Is Case in Point peer reviewed?
A: Yes. All cases are put through review by our panel of associate editors with subspecialty expertise.

Q: What are the criteria for the authors who submit cases?
A: The only criterion is that all cases must include a supervising or attending radiologist. Cases are often made up of an attending radiologist, residents, and/or medical students, but resident or medical student co-authors are not required. The author team consists of many unique combinations of contributors. We accept international submissions as well.

Q: I'm about to submit a case. But, now I realize that my case topic is already in the Case in Point archives. Should I still submit?
A: You may still submit the case for approval. In your case suggestion submission, note how your case may differ from the other cases with similar diagnoses. For example, is the presentation unique in any way?

Q: Can I submit old films, or do I have to scan them first?
A: All images must be digital and must be JPEG format.

Q: When the case goes live, can we have our profile/headshots online, too?
A: Yes. Submit a professional headshot for all authors, along with your other case material.

Q: After my case is published, how can I cite it on my resume or CV?
A: You can cite your case as you would an online journal, using the diagnosis as the title. Here are two examples:

Q: How can I search for all Case in Points submitted with my name?
A: Visit the Case in Point Archive and, in the "Author" field, enter your last name. Hit "Search."

Q: How do I annotate an image?
A: You will be able to annotate your images in your case submission FORM. This is a unique URL you will receive after your suggestion has been approved.

Q: My case was rejected. Why? Has the case been done recently?
A: The Editor-in-Chief for Case in Point may deny your case for many different reasons. However, most of the time cases are denied because of duplicate diagnoses.

Q: Can I add another author to the case suggestions that were accepted?
A: Yes.

Q: Do you integrate with PACS?
A: No

Q: How do I submit the required copyright, disclosure and director approval forms? 
A: All forms (copyright, disclosure and chair approval) may be submitted using our online form here. Note:  All authors must submit copyright and disclosure forms.  

Q: Why must we sign and return the copyright agreement form?
A: The American College of Radiology (ACR) will own the copyright to your submitted materials. However, the ACR will specifically allow you to re-use the material.

Q: Does this site accept uploads of images to be analyzed and published?
A: No.

The Case in Point editors encourage submission of classic radiology diagnoses as well as the not so common diagnoses.
